Conor Oberst & the Mystic Valley Band-I Got the Reason
I was first able to hear ‘I Got the Reason’ live before Conor and his Mystic Valley Band released their sophomore LP Outer South, on which the song appears. It was a moving performance that took the listeners through a range of emotions and dynamics. To me this is a song that, despite it’s 7+ minute play time, has everything that constitutes a good American rock song. The moment that the full band enters, after a solo first verse by Conor, is what convinced me that a band like MVB is exactly what Conor needed to take his music in a different and engaging direction.
